Practice of the Month: Lectio Divina

Daily Scripture Reading
Why This Practice?
In a noisy and distracted world, Jesus invites us to slow down and listen. Scripture is more than information—it is a place of encounter with God. This month we are practicing daily Scripture reading through the ancient practice of Lectio Divina (“Divine Reading”).
“Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” — 1 Samuel 3:10
Our Goal for May
Spend 10–15 minutes each day slowing down to hear God through His Word, ideally before you look at your phone, the news, or email. If you miss a day, just begin again tomorrow! Grace over guilt.
The point isn’t to perform or check off a box, but to simply be with Jesus and let His Word shape us.
How to Practice Lectio Divina
Sit in a quiet, comfortable place. Take a few deep breaths and invite the Holy Spirit to open your heart.
1. READ
Choose a short passage of Scripture. Read it slowly 2–3 times.
Ask: What word or phrase stands out to me?
2. REFLECT
Pause and think about what you noticed.
Ask: Why might this stand out today? What is God inviting me to notice?
3. RESPOND
Talk with God honestly. Based on what you’ve heard, how should you respond?
Pray: Thank You. Help me. Speak more. I surrender…
4. REST
Sit quietly for a minute or two in God’s presence.
Give to God what you have found within your heart and rest in God's presence.
Simply be with God, resting in the unique, one-of-a-kind, unconditional love that God has for you.

Prayer for May
Jesus, teach us to love Your Word. Slow us down, quiet our hearts, and speak to us through Scripture. Shape us into people who hear and obey Your voice. Amen.
